When you play on Monday night, what else could you be?

It's really a no-brainer. When your softball team plays every Monday night, it's logical to call yourselves the "FHE" team.

At least, that's the way the members of the Westbrook 9th Ward team from West Jordan, Utah, look at it.

"We were all sitting around trying to come up with a name. Since we were playing on Monday night and we're all LDS, we decided why not call ourselves the family home evening team?" said Emily Wilson, one of the players whose team plays at the Copperview Recreation Center.

"Then we started brainstorming," she said. "We had to come up with 12 names for the back of our shirts, so we used anything we could think of."

Matt Cederholm is the pitcher and "Treat," usually the family home evening main attraction.

Wilson plays second base, and is known as "Opening Prayer."

Other members of the team are "Lesson," "Conducting" and "Opening Song."

Much like the famous Abbott and Costello "Who's on first?" routine, it can be confusing to see "Monday Night" Travis Carlson slide into home. "Main Event" Mike Farr gets a nice hit. "Presiding" Jon Cracroft sends a long drive into the outfield. "Activity" Sandy Larson gets on base, comes home, then catches a high fly while in the field.

The light blue team shirts attract attention -- and missionary opportunities.

"A lot of people say stuff," Wilson said. "We're always getting asked, 'What'd you bring for a treat,' or 'What's the lesson about?'"

Many people just want to know what FHE stands for. Others think it's good for a chuckle.

The team members are all aware that their name puts them in the spotlight, so every player takes care not to cuss out the umpire or argue unduly over a call.

"We keep it clean," Wilson said.

Just because they have a name with a religious tone, she's not sure they can assume the Lord is playing on their side. But they started the season with a 3-1 record.

They're enjoying the attention, the exercise and it makes them all feel better about devoting Monday evenings to a sports activity.

Since the team is made up of young couples, they bring their children along and enjoy the camaraderie, taking turns keeping the tots off the playing field.

Said Wilson: "We should have gotten shirts that say 'nursery' on them because of all the kids."
